Frequently asked questions
How is the procedure done without anesthesia ?
With large dogs I am able to either lay them on their side or with them sitting down, with small dogs I wrap them tightly in a towel preventing excess movement giving me control of their snout and teeth.
What does this procedure entail?
We use one hand to control the mouth and expose the teeth, and the other hand to clean the teeth using a manual scaler its great for breaking away plaque and tartar we finish by using an oral rinse or foam for fresh breath and help fight bacteria.
How long does the whole process take?
On average it can take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the tartar build up and how the pet is feeling.
What if the pet has loose or missing teeth?
We are still able to perform preventative dental cleanings for dogs despite missing or loose teeth.
What if the pet's dental and gum condition is past the point of where a dental cleaning would be beneficial?
If the condition of the pet's teeth/ gums are beyond the need for a preventative cleaning, meaning a condition already exists, Rocky's Doggie Dental reserves the right to not perform the teeth cleaning of any pet.
How often should I get this done?
It is recommended to have professional dental cleaning every 4 -6 months.
What should I do at home to help with their teeth cleaning?
Brush! Using a small toothbrush, apply organic coconut oil or use a oral rinse/ foam from Petco or Petsmart.
